Richard Geraint DEAN-HUGHES
May 1st 2008
Memorial ID: 1005007125

Passed away peacefully after a short illness on Thursday 1st May 2008 at home aged 72. Much loved partner of Mary Anne and loving father and grandfather. Previously headmaster of Eylesden Court School, Bearsted, Kent, from 1967 - 1996. A member of Maidstone Rotary Club for 22 years and Club President from 2005 - 2006. There will be a service in celebration of his life at Holy Cross Church, Bearsted, Maidstone, Kent on Monday 12th May 2008 at 2.30pm. Family Flowers only please, but donations if desired to McMillan Nurses may be sent via the funeral director.

The service took place as detailed above, and in remembrance of a very popular man, mourners attended in their droves. Occasional seats were needed to allow everyone there a place to sit. The service was opened by the Reverend John Corbyn and shortly after, Doctor Gwyn Jones rose to speak of his long term friend. He spoke movingly at times, and at others brought laughter from those attending with stories of Rugby and other activities they enjoyed together. There followed a recital by the Choir, of which Mr Dean Huges had been a member, with rousing Welsh hymns and a Welsh lullaby bringing the service to a Poem called High Flight. Charles Dean Hughes took up the lectern to recite the poem, and gave a faultless performance. The congregation left the church to the Welsh National Anthem reproduced loudly throughout the church, and mingled quietly on the church lawn whilst waiting their turn to speak with Mary Ann and the family.
